Teaching English As A Foreign Language
What
is TEFL?
TEFL is the dynamic, fast-growing field of Teaching
English as a Foreign Language. The field of TEFL is growing
dramatically as people around the world strive to become proficient
in English, the international language of communication and
information, education, business and trade, technology and
travel.
TEFL involves
teaching English to non-English speakers who live outside
of English-speaking countries, although EFL teachers can also
work with international students in English speaking countries.
Pillars offers the TEFL certificate program as a complementary
asset to those interested in overseas missions work, or those
students wanting a viable employment option, desiring to travel
abroad, gaining invaluable experience while earning a substantial
income.
University
of Saskatchewan—Teaching English as a Second Language
Certificate
Pillars
students will complete two 40-hour programs. Students will
study from comprehensive course guides and textbooks, receiving
assistance from on-site instructors as well as by telephone
or e-mail from University of Saskatchewan instructors who
also provide feedback on their assignments. Pillars students
who successfully complete the two TEFL courses, Communicative
Language Teaching 1 and 2, will receive a certificate. TEFL
completers who choose to write the optional exams and achieve
an average of at least 60% in each of the program’s
two courses are eligible to transfer their courses into CERTESL.
This makes University of Saskatchewan’s TEFL certificate
a more useful option than some other short certificates which
do not transfer into any other professionally recognized or
accredited programs.
