Outside
The Classroom...
Experiential Activities
Learning
is not confined to the classroom. Pillars offers many opportunities
to put all you have learned into practice, while gaining first-hand
leadership and team management experience.
Missions
Experience—Bogalusa, Louisianna
Rebuilding homes...lives...hope in the aftermath of Hurricane
Katrina. There is still much work to do in Louisianna—clean
up of trees, debris, exterior and interior of homes and church
buildings, and temporary repairs to those facilities. Students
and Staff of Pillars will come together, bonding on the 24
hour drive to Bogalusa, then working together partnering with
Triangle of Hope Ministries to help restore the lives of the
residents of Bogalusa as we repair and rebuild their dwellings.
Ultimately, our desire is to let them see the Love of Jesus
Christ in our lives, knowing that can make both an earthly
and eternal difference in their lives.
Missions
Experience—Streets of Pain—Toronto
You will discover first hand the social crisis of homelessness
and what people are doing to assist those who suffer from
it. We will be partnering with the Harbourlight Salvation
Army in downtown Toronto and students will be volunteering
at the Gateway Shelter. We will have the opportunity to serve
breakfast to the homeless on the street with the Salvation
Army breakfast van, travel with the Street Youth Ministry
van and chat with homeless teenagers and work at hostels,
serving breakfast and supper.
Service
Projects
Partnering with local churches, para-church organizations,
and community groups, you will be exposed to a variety of
ministry endeavours, providing support, leadership and practical
assistance to those serving others.
Camp
Leadership
School groups, corporate retreats, kids camps, weekend youth
retreats; all are hosted at Wesley Acres and you will be able
to put your gifts to good use as you serve alongside Wesley
Acres staff.
Team
Building/Group Dynamic Exercises
Within your first few weeks, you will pack up and head out
for the great outdoors, as we embark on an out-tripping expedition:
a wonderful opportunity to break the ice, get to know one
another better and draw closer to God and each other. High
ropes, low ropes, rock wall, student trips and more will round
out your experiential activities.
